sorry, i've never heard of this, so Chloe was pregnant, and then, without passing any contents, is no longer pregnant? is that what that means? is this very common?

It's when puppies die while others are still developing. Since the mom can't abort just one puppy to save the litter she will reaborb them. If they come out they look like puppies that never formed or jellied sacks. It's like a miscarriage. In Mastiffs and Great Danes I know it is rather common within certain lines but we've never seen it within our own.
