This is great!!! Would it be at all possible to make a video on how to teach them “Break!” and :Get In!” and also how to get them to salute? Your videos are so easy to understand and to follow, thank you so much for doing what you do! 🙂

    • Jean Cote says:

Thank you for the kind words, they mean a lot to me.

Yes, I do plan on releasing a “Get In” lesson in the near future, the “Break” is more of a variety of wait/stay but I can also make a lesson for it. Please check back in a few weeks, I will get them up.

As for the “Salute”, do you mean “Wave”? That’s kind of a high five without your hand being there, correct?

      • Samantha says:

Kind of yeah, I would just like to train my dog to salute my boyfriend ( he is in the Canadian Military). I just cant figure out how to teach him correctly. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos. 🙂

Thanks for this trick. I really like the way you explain things, and how you break things down. I’ve tried it using a ‘hair scrunchie’ which sits around the muzzle, and the dog can paw it off. You can see me having a try with Solas my GSD at http://youtu.be/XDCPcFj4enA 🙂

    • Jean Cote says:

Thank you Maggi. That’s awesome how Solas has already begun to learn the trick, loved the video – keep up the EXCELLENT work! 🙂

Hope you didn’t lose your french:-))

Mercie pour les compliments Tania. Je n’ai pas oublié mon français mais c’est vraiment compliqué écrire sans un clavier français. 🙂

  • Ashe Luna says:

My dog doesn’t seem to do it. I’ve tried the tape but he just doesn’t do it without. Do you know why? Also, like this site.

    • Jean Cote says:

      Hi Ashe,

It might not work with every dog. The tape trick is just to elicit a behavior, my dog would try to take it off which then allowed me to reward that behavior. If your dog doesn’t react at all with the tape, then you could try other sticky objects or just move on to a different trick altogether. Some dogs are better at some tricks than others, it’s all about tailoring your training to your own dog’s strengths and weaknesses.
